South Cumbria residents recall tales of woe caused by dog muck

AS the Evening Mail’s Scoop the Poop campaign continues apace, readers have contacted us with horror stories of dog mess in their communities.

Streets and parks throughout South and West Cumbria have been highlighted as having a dog mess problem.

Carole Morby nominated Broughton Road, leading up to Egerton Terrace, in Dalton.

She said: “I have had near misses on a few occasions and walked it through the house on one occasion when it was dark.

“Also, I fell over on Egerton Terrace and actually fell into some poo.

“They also leave their dog poo bags hanging on the posts of the grassy area on Egerton Terrace.”

Rachel Bellamy said: “I live in Jarrow Street, Barrow, and dog muck is a huge problem.

“People even dump bags of it next to my gate. When it’s left on the street, people cycle through it, spreading it further.

“I know there isn’t enough money to buy bins and put them on every street but there are hardly any bins anywhere.”

Deborah Yearnshire nominated Hart Street and Church Walk in Ulverston.

She said: “It is absolutely disgusting. Walking along Hart Street into town, the pavement is layered.

“With two small children, aged two and four, it is impossible to avoid one of them or the pushchair wheels coming into contact with it.

“Sometimes we have to walk along the road, which is really dangerous.

“My son goes to Church Walk Pre-School and we usually walk through the churchyard to school and it is everywhere.

“He has fallen right in it before, getting it all over his coat. I cannot understand the lazy, ignorant and selfish attitude of these people.

“If the council aren’t going to police it, the least they could do is clean it up. Ulverston is quickly becoming a very dirty place to live.”

l FREE dog poo bags are being given out with your copy of the Evening Mail.

The poo bags, donated by Barrow Borough Council, will be given away with a copy of the paper by street vendors and from our Abbey Road office.

We are giving readers the equipment they need to clean up after their dogs as part of our Scoop the Poop campaign. Supplies are limited and bags will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
