Second gift to help Barrow family

A SECOND anonymous donation of £100 has helped a family facing financial difficulty.

GRATEFUL: Marie Hooper with Shannon and Aidan

An envelope arrived at the Evening Mail offices addressed to Marie Hooper, of Piel View Grove, Barrow.

The mum-of-two featured in the Evening Mail in November, about her struggle to make ends meet while earning below the living wage. Mrs Hooper, aged 27, is sole provider to Shannon, seven, and Aidan, 21 months, after a motorbike accident left her husband Kristian Hooper unable to work, and the family was struggling to get by on her shop assistant salary.

The family were first helped out by an anonymous donation when £100 cash was sent to the Evening Mail offices anonymously shortly after the article appeared.

The second envelope contained a bank giro for Mrs Hooper, and Christmas card with the message, “I hope what I have put in the card can help your family.” The card was signed “from George”.

Mrs Hooper said: “I want to thank George for his kind offer, we are all very grateful. We will now be able to afford a few Christmas treats.”

Mrs Hooper has started a new job at council tax and benefits service Liberata, which pays the living wage, and says her experience of financial difficulty will help her empathise with clients.
