Rebecca swims in at South Copeland Scarecrow Festival

TEAM GB swimming star Rebecca Adlington made an appearance at this year’s South Copeland Scarecrow Festival.

The swimmer’s scarecrow likeness – complete with mermaid tail – Rebecca Codlington, was on display at the festival over the weekend.

The awards were judged by Joan Hobbs, from South Copeland Tourism Group, and Millom mayor, Councillor Janice Brown.

The best business award went to Power World owner Bev Sharp, joint first place for best school went to Park View Nursery, in Millom, and Captain Shaw’s, in Bootle, best private house went to Old Bank, in Bootle, and the overall prize went to Park View Nursery.

June Paterson in Haverigg, the Old Cornmill at Kirksanton, Sharon’s Balloons in Millom and St Mary’s Hospice in Millom all won runner-up prizes.

Have your say

Why was this event not publicised in advance?
Many people were not even aware that this was happening this year.
The Tourism Group should look at their publicity strategy for next year I think.

What a shame there was insufficient publicity for this event. Many people in the town didn't even know that this was taking place. Perhaps better advertising next time would be a good idea.
