PRIME Minister David Cameron has backed the Evening Mail’s We Want to Work campaign – describing it as ‘vital’.
In message of support, Mr Cameron said: “There is no greater priority for this government than to get Britain working again.
“Despite the creation of more than a million new jobs, there is still more to do. But there should be absolutely no doubt that I am determined to support everyone who wants to work hard, who wants to make a better life for themselves and their families, and who understands the value of an honest day’s work.
“We will continue to back better education and skills training. More work experience, more traineeships, more apprenticeships – and raising standards in our schools.
“I am equally committed to backing business – slashing red tape, cutting taxes and reinvigorating a spirit of enterprise and aspiration – creating the conditions in which companies can flourish, the economy can thrive and compete, and jobs can grow.
“There are jobs out there. More people are currently in work than ever before – but at the last count there were still almost half a million unfilled vacancies. Companies will always need a committed and capable workforce – we need to bring employers and employees together and, where necessary, help bridge the skills gap.
“That’s why campaigns like the North-West Evening Mail’s are so vital. They connect ambitious, visionary businesses with talented, willing workers - to the benefit of both.
“I urge businesses across Cumbria to get behind the Evening Mail’s campaign, and other regions across the country to follow their lead and help get Britain working.”
