Olympian Mo Farah’s chef hopes to strike gold at Barrow restaurant

A CHEF who regularly served Olympic legend Mo Farah has brought his curry expertise to Barrow.
Yousof Ali, 60, worked at the Bangladeshi Bilash Restaurant in Teddington, London, which was a regular haunt of the long-distance specialist.
Mr Ali, who now lives in Robert Street, Barrow, even concocted a special signature dish for the 29-year-old London 2012 double gold medal winner – the Mo Korma.
He left the Bilash three weeks ago to join his brother, Ashak Ali, at the Ali Jee Spice Restaurant in Dalton Road.Yousof Ali said: “Mo used to come in all the time for his takeaways, and he would also come in with his friends and family.
“I met him once when he was out for a jog in Bushy Park. He’s a very, very nice person, and a very social person.
“He asked me to make him a traditional Bangla korma, without sugar, coconut and almonds, and everybody liked it. All the customers loved it when he came in.”
Mr Farah, famous for his trademark “Mo-Bot” celebration, also visited Bilash for a post-Olympic party.
“He brought around 15 people in, it was great,” said Yousof.
Ashak, owner of Ali Jee, says they plan to introduce the Mo Korma to their Barow menu.
Ashak also runs Taste of Balti on Market Street, Ulverston, and Curry Spice, Millom, alongside his younger brothers Hossin and Sattar Miah.
Yousof said: “I will be helping my brother to grow the business at the restaurant, and we will try and make it very successful.”
