‘No comment’ on deal from former Barrow hospital trust boss
Published at 16:19, Friday, 22 March 2013
BELEAGUERED former health boss Tony Halsall has declined the opportunity to justify the £250,000 deal he struck upon his demotion.
The Evening Mail contacted Mr Halsall yesterday after the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust finally revealed details of contract.
Mr Halsall stood down as the trust’s chief executive in February last year after presiding over major failings at Furness General Hospital’s maternity unit.
On Wednesday it emerged he will have been paid a total of £250,000 and will have had the use of a company car for nearly two years by the time his tenure at the NHS expires in October. But when contacted by the Evening Mail yesterday, Mr Halsall refused to comment on the controversy over his contract.
James Titcombe, who has been campaigning for justice since his son Joshua died nine days after his birth in 2008, said he was “disgusted” with the agreement.
“He really did let people down badly,” he said. “The guy should have been sacked for misconduct, not given a cushy deal.”
