New Barrow police station a step closer to reality

THE new Barrow police station is a step closer to reality.

The final planning permission has been received and the contract for the building of a new police station at Andrews Way has been signed.

Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Richard Rhodes said: “I am pleased to announce that the more detailed planning permission has now been gained for the building of a new police station in Barrow.

The planning permission together with the signing of the building contract with Cumbria-based Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd means that the building of the new police station on land at Andrews Way can now commence in the New Year.

“The current police station no longer meets the needs of the modern police service and on completion of the new building it will be offered to the market for sale.”

This project forms part of the joint Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s and Constabulary’s estate strategy to improve its estate and provide sustainable, efficient accommodation for its officers and staff.
