Multi-talented Coniston students display variety of skills

STUDENT performers not only displayed their dance and drama talent at an arts concert, but their modern foreign languages skills too.

John Ruskin School, in Coniston, staged Ace of Arts, a cabaret-style concert over two days last week.

The sold out event, which was the culmination of four months of preparation, showed club and exam work by students of all ages, and performances by ex students and pupils from Coniston CE Primary School.

Gill Sharp, head of expressive arts at John Ruskin School, said the performance showed a range of genres, moods and themes.

The drama work included comic sketches based on a hazardous plane ride and another made light of school rules, while The Fantastic Mr Fox was performed in French.

Ms Sharp said John Ruskin School enjoys giving students the opportunities to be independent and lead by example.

Older students at the school led clubs for younger students, and ex students Holly Clarke and Adam Pickford returned from Barrow Sixth Form College and Kendal College to share their singing, drama and technical skills.

Ms Sharp said: “It is a joy to see young people involved in positive experiences and creating imaginative pieces of work of which they are proud to share. The students supported each other every step of the way. They had two very happy and successful concert evenings. The staff congratulate them on their performances.”
