More police patrols in South Cumbria tonight for 'Festive Friday'

POLICE in South Cumbria will be increasing their patrols tonight, on a day police are calling 'Festive Friday'.

Officers in Cumbria say they will be pounding the beat with healthcare professionals to stop problems escalating on probably the most notorious drinking day in the calendar.

The increase in patrols is part of a string of measures to stop alcohol-fuelled violence over the festive period.

This includes work on the two key dates of New Year’s Eve and 'Festive Friday' – traditionally the most popular day for start-of-holiday drinks, with many workplaces finishing and people celebrating by hitting the pubs.

Sergeant Richard Higgin, of Cumbria Police, said: “Police officers will go on patrol with a healthcare professional offering advice, guidance and help to people who need it.

“We’ve identified this Friday and New Year’s Eve as the busiest days for people.”

Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Richard Rhodes will also join officers on patrols tonight.

Have your say

Thank God police intelligence have identified Black Eye Friday and New Years Eve as busy.
