Mission to put even more magic into festive market
Published at 16:27, Wednesday, 05 September 2012
BARROW is set to be magical once again this Christmas.
The North-West Evening Mail and Barrow Borough Council are set to bring Barrow Christmas Market back to the town centre this December.
The festive market first came to town last year, bringing Yuletide cheer to families and aiming to boost trade in town centre shops.
For Christmas 2012 the plan is for the traditional chalets to be solely based along Dalton Road, with a children’s fun fair, and a central food court and entertainment area.
Last year the event featured wonderful carol singing and dancing from schoolchildren, and the Evening Mail is keen to get schools involved again. The aim is for the market to be held over two weekends, December 1 and 2 and December 8 and 9.
Frank Stretton, commercial director at the North-West Evening Mail said: “The North-West Evening Mail and Barrow Borough Council are working to secure partners to help make Christmas magical in 2012. We want to support the town centre traders at this key time and provide a fantastic experience for the people of the area and other visitors. We really hope to be able to build on the strength of last year’s event. We are looking at taking the best elements from last year and making improvements.”
Anyone who is interested in supporting the event as a partner or by having a chalet is asked to contact Mr Stretton 01229 840100.
