A TERRIFYING near-miss on a notorious road was captured on a driver's dashcam.

The driver, who wished to remain anonymous, posted the footage to YouTube after the incident on the A595 on June 16.

The footage shows two cars overtaking on the single-lane carriageway, with the second, a VW Up!, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with a lorry.

The driver who captured the footage said: "I was driving back home with my work colleague and I could see this car overtaking from a few cars back.

"At the time, there were roadworks and, as you can see near the start of the video, there are temporary 'no overtaking' signs.

"I wasn't surprised to see an overtake, as a few people are very impatient drivers in this area, but both myself and my work colleague grew increasingly concerned as the car got closer to the oncoming van as there was nowhere for the car to fit in."

The road has become notorious after a number of fatal accidents in recent years.

The driver said: "I don't think the road is a dangerous road itself, it's some people who use the road who are dangerous drivers that are the problem.

"The biggest danger on the A595 is dangerous overtaking."
