RESIDENTS in Millom have this evening (16) been reporting problems with brown tap water.
On Facebook, issues have been reported in Lowther Road but appear to be affecting several areas of the town. A pipe is also said to have burst in the same street.
A United Utilities spokesman confirmed that a pipe had burst at around 6am this morning. Unfortunately, a car is parked over the area of the valve that they need to access to turn off the water flow and return residents' water to normal.
The police have been contacted and are trying to establish a way they may be able to help the water company access the valve, as it is believed the car's owner is on holiday. In the meantime, United Utilities engineers are attempting to dig down either side of the car to access the valve.
Their spokesman said he would contact The Mail with an update as soon as they had managed to resolve the issues.
