WHILE being at the forefront of wind power, there are a few differences between the south Cumbrian town and Taiwan.

Both may enjoy their own delicacies, but Barrow's typical pie and peas supper, washed down with some Barrow Sass, is rivalled by star dishes including milkfish, gua bao or an oyster omelet.

A glass of bubble tea may follow, with the chewy drink made with a mixture of traditional Taiwanese desert sweetened tapioca pudding and tea.

Perhaps the most well-known aspect of the country is its variety of stunning food, with the streets coming alive at night to showcase some of their finest food at market stalls.

Found off the east coast of China, the official language is mandarin Chinese.

There is also the slight average difference of 15 degrees temperature-wise between the two, with Taiwan enjoying heats around 35C in August.

While Barrow is blessed with the sporting talents of the Raiders and AFC, the national sport of Taiwan is baseball, with Lugang's closest team the Chinatrust Brothers, who compete in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.

Of Taiwan's 23.55 million residents, 86,000 live in Lugang, similar to Barrow's approximately 70,000.
