THERE will be a lot of TLC given out this week as the bid to clean up a town continues.

It is hard to imagine a better way to show how much you love your home town than going out around the streets and picking up any litter and rubbish you find blighting the environment.

And that is exactly what will be happening on Friday afternoon when the recently launched Love Barrow Town Centre group will carry out a Big Clean in the town centre.

Love Barrow Town Centre is a collective initiated by Barrow BID, Barrow Borough Council, Cumbria County Council, John Woodcock MP and The Mail.

Its core aim is to restore pride in the town centre and to kick-start the campaign, the LBTC group is undertaking a Big Clean on Friday afternoon.

Each of the five signatories to the campaign will be out in Dalton Road and the surrounding streets from 1pm and it is hoped that many of the businesses in the town centre will join in, collecting rubbish and generally cleaning up the areas outside their respective premises.

The campaign is not there to replace the core services of either Barrow Borough Council or Cumbria County Council but to supplement these.

BID manager Phil Collier said: "As a ‘Starter for 10’, it was felt by everyone that an initial clean up would be good to bring us to where we should be and to encourage all town centre businesses to get involved."

All five of the parties to the Campaign have signed a pledge to:

 Ensure that they fulfill their respective responsibilities;

 Draw the attention of stakeholders, businesses and members of the public alike to collectively address issues within the town centre;

 Positively promote the town centre at every opportunity;

 Collaborate to achieve the key objective of winning the Great British High Streets competition within the next three years.

Mr Collier added: "Barrow is a town with a great sense of pride and community spirit – events like the Love Barrow Awards demonstrates that in spades – so LBTC is all about ensuring that the same pride and community spirit is focussed on the town centre itself.

"After all, if the five partners to LBTC are fulfilling their collective responsibilities, we need every business and every individual to do the same."
