A CIVIC service was held in Millom to celebrate the appointment of the town's new mayor.
Councillor Doug Wilson was joined by his wife Felicity and more than 130 dignitaries and guests at a service at St George's church, Millom.
Some of the few in attendance were the mayors of Copeland and Ulverston, the police and crime commissioner for Cumbria and the county's high sheriff.
The service was led into the church by a piper and standard bearers from the Royal British Legion and The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.
Cllr Wilson, speaking after the ceremony, outlined his plans for Millom in the coming months.
He said: "The chain of office gives you the authority to actually make things happen.
"I want to make the town a better place for people to be. We need to recognise that if a community wants revive itself, we need to pull together, and build relationships where there were none before."
Cllr Wilson knows it is a time of opportunity, and as Mayor he wants to seize hold of that for the benefit of his how, however today he allowed himself to enjoy his moment.
He said: "It's a great honour, I'm a very proud man."
