A SINGLE mum has been told to make arrangements for prison after she was caught taking drugs to HMP Haverigg.

Danielle Stewart, 28, pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of drugs with intent to supply when she appeared at Preston Crown Court.

Stewart, of Olive Lane, Darwen, was caught with cocaine, cannabis resin and amphetamines which she placed in a locker at the prison near Millom, Cumbria.

Her partner was serving a sentence at the jail when Stewart committed the offence on August 20 last year.

The court heard the mum was handed the drugs by someone she has not named and told to take them to HMP Haverigg during a visit.

However she did not take the banned substances into the visiting area and instead placed them in the locker - where they were discovered by a member of prison staff.

Stewart was arrested and admitted possessing the class A and B drugs.

She will be sentenced at Preston Crown Court on June 28.

Recorder Mark Laprell ordered a pre-sentence report, telling Stewart: “That is for your benefit and to assist the judge who sentences you.

“The fact I have ordered a report should not lead you to assume that the court is considering any particular outcome. The likelihood is it will be custodial.

“You would be well advised to make arrangements with that understanding.”

The judge granted Stewart bail on the condition she lives and sleeps at her home in Darwen and does not enter HMP Haverigg until she returns to court on June 28.
