AN investigation has been launched following a serious assault in Millom.
Bank holiday weekend brought teams of police to Millom after an incident took place near the slag bank in the early hours of Monday morning.
Cumbria Police have since confirmed they are investigating a serious assault but no further information has been released.
The incident has caused substantial concern among residents after rumours of a body being found began to escalate.
Reg Heathcote, a former Millom Town Councillor, said more information was needed to quash the rumours.
He said: "Everyone is asking each other about what's going on but no-one knows anything.
"The police are still floating around and people are concerned when they see police activity and everyone wants to know what's going on but no-one has come to say anything.
"If the police have any information then I think the public should be informed but if it's something that needs to be kept under wraps I suppose they know best themselves."
