A MILLOM woman will be sentenced next month for committing a drugs supply offence and possessing criminal cash.

Susan Maxwell, 45, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today on Friday.

During a short hearing before Judge Barbara Forrester, Maxwell pleaded guilty to possessing criminal property – money – between October 21 and 24 last year.

It emerged she had also admitted possessing class B cannabis, with intent to supply it to another, during a previous court appearance.

Judge Forrester was told that Maxwell had admitted the criminal property charge on a written basis.

This stated she admitted possessing £3,000 of criminal property out of a total sum of £8,105 which was recovered from an address at Newton Street in Millom.

But the remainder, she has insisted, comprised a £2,500 loan she had been given from one male, and a similar sum which was being kept on behalf of another.

It was accepted the £3,000 related to "the defendant's involvement in supplying cannabis over a two-and-a-half month period as specified in her (police) interview", her basis revealed.

However, CPS lawyer Beccy McGregor said in an address to Judge Forrester: "That basis of plea is not accepted by the prosecution."

As a result, a further hearing will take place at the crown court in mid-November.

Evidence is due to be heard in front of a judge who will then to rule on the extent of Maxwell's offending. She will then be sentenced for the two crimes.

In the meantime Maxwell, of Wellington Street, Millom, was granted unconditional bail by Judge Forrester.
