A MOTHER who kept her three young children in a "filthy and dangerous" house pleaded guilty to neglect.

The woman, from Millom, appeared at Furness Magistates Court on June 27 faced with three charges of neglect from June 9.

Mr Peter Kelly, prosecuting, said: "Officers found the house to be filthy and unsafe.

"There was human and dog faeces around the house and the floor was covered in dirty clothing in every room.

"There was a child's potty full of urine in the middle of the living room and pen marking the walls in three of the rooms.

"The kitchen had an overflowing rubbish bin and empty plastic meat packaging and a sharp knife lying around. The kitchen counters had been used as an ashtray to put out cigarettes.

"There was very little food in the cupboards, mainly just sauces and beans.

"There were more dirty clothes lying on the bottom five stairs and upstairs the shower hadn't been used recently and had old dog biscuits in the basin."

The court also heard how the woman's husband often works away.

Mr Andrew Gallagher, defending, claimed the house deteriorated over a short period of three days.

The woman cannot be named in order to protect the identities of the three children involved.

All three children have since been removed from the couple's care.

The matter was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be heard on July 5, with the woman bailed on the condition that she is not to have unsupervised access to a child under 16.
