MEMBERS of a community are coming together to celebrate the life of a young woman who "loved to party".

People across Millom will be heading to the Conservative Club on Friday night for an elegant ball to celebrate the life of Alex Kellett, who died last year.

Throughout the year, family and friends have been working tirelessly to raise money in her memory but will now enjoy a well-earned rest as they enjoy a lavish ball in her honour.

Joan Kellett, Alex's mother, is excited about dedicating an entire evening to her daughter.

She said: "I wanted to celebrate her life and get together with friends and the community she loved.

"It's about everyone celebrating Alex's life so it's not about raising money. This night will be about her. It's not for anyone else, it's just for her."

The evening will be a glitzy affair for the whole community, with little touches around the room to help people share their favourite memories of Miss Kellett.

Complete with spectacular live entertainment and a disco, the evening will be a chance for family and friends to let their hair down and remember Miss Kellett at her best.

Mrs Kellett said: "Alex loved her friends - she had a fantastic group of friends - and she loved to party.

"There is very little she didn't go to; she was always out and about. This party would have been Alex in her element."

After setting up The Butterfly Charity in her memory earlier this year, family and friends have been working relentlessly to raise funds for a number of different charities.

However, Mrs Kellett has decided to put the fundraising on hold and concentrate all her effort into throwing her daughter a lavish party.

She said: "When I'm planning it, I sit and ask myself what would she have wanted and I knew her so well that I always know the answer.

"I think this night will be exactly how Alex would have wanted it."

The Butterfly Ball will take place at Millom Conservative Club on Friday September 2 at 7.30pm and entry is free.

With many of Miss Kellett's friends and family already planning to attend, Mrs Kellett is hoping the ball will be a party to remember.

She said: "Alex would have been overwhelmed but everyone thought so much of her, loved her and respected her."
