A SCHEME to help Millom households save on their energy bills has been relaunched for a third time this year.

Copeland Council's The Big Switch returns after two successful campaigns already in 2017.

With a high number of householders saving large amounts on their bills, council bosses have urged people across the borough to sign up. The scheme involves the organisers creating a large group of customers interested in cheaper tariffs, who then offer their custom as a group to the energy firm offering the best deal.

Residents saved an average of £128 during the scheme’s first run and £148 in the second.

David Moore, Copeland Council's portfolio holder for nuclear and corporate services, said: "Energy bills can be difficult for vulnerable residents, and this scheme will help people get the best deal and, hopefully, not have to worry. But it is not just for those struggling to afford their energy bill - everyone can sign up as this offers the chance of great savings for minimum effort.

"With the recently announced increases to prices, there has never been a better time to consider switching."

Copeland mayor Mike Starkie said: "This is the third time we’ve run the scheme, and the previous two have saved people hundreds of pounds from their bills."

To sign up, residents must register using their latest energy bills, before finding out how much money could be saved. There is no obligation to switch.

The deadline to get involved is midnight on October 9. Visit www.copeland.gov.uk/section/copeland-big-switch or head to Copeland's Market Hall office in Millom.
