ASPIRING gymnasts have sent their well-wishes to world-class athlete Beth Tweddle after she suffered a horror smash on the slopes of The Jump .

The Olympic medal-winner has undergone surgery on her back following a serious injury on the Channel 4 television show.

Britain's most successful gymnast is recovering from her operation but is unable to walk without assistance.

A statement from her parents said: "Since her surgery, Beth has managed to walk a few steps whilst being assisted by the nursing team.

"She is still very tired from the operation but the medical team are pleased with the progress she is making.

"At the moment we aren't certain of the timescale for her recovery.

"We are taking each day as it comes and will update you when there is further news.”

They continued: "Our thanks also go to the production team who have been helping and supporting us, and everyone who has sent a get well message to Beth.

"We’ve been reading every message to her and it really does make a difference knowing that there are so many people wishing her well."

The Olympic gymnast has visited Millom Recreation Centre a number of times to inspire the next generation. Spurred on by this, gymnasts at Millom Recreation Centre are determined to show their support and children across the town are busily preparing home-made cards for the star, who has visited the town on numerous occasions.

Tracy Kirk, manager of Millom Recreation Centre, took to social media to see if the club wanted to do something nice for the injured gymnast.

She said: "We were really sorry to hear about her accident and we hope she will take on her recovery with the same bravery and determination as she has shown throughout her gymnastic career."

"She is a real inspiration to all young gymnasts and we are all sending her lots of love and wishing her a very speedy recovery from us all at Millom Recreation Centre Gymnastics Club."

Over the past three years, Ms Tweddle has travelled to Millom three time to inspire the town's young gymnasts and the club at the Recreation Centre has nothing but the highest regard for athlete.

Ms Kirk said: "Beth is an exceptional young woman and gymnast and has been an inspiration to all of us here at Millom Recreation Centre.

"She is strong and determined and she is an amazing role model for the sport and is always so brave in every challenge she has undertaken."

The Olympian has made other visits across south Cumbria and was the inspirational guest speaker at Furness Academy's prize giving in November.

The Barrow school is also sending her well wishes.

Helen Robinson, assistant headteacher at Furness Academy said: "We were all very sorry to hear about Beth’s accident. When she came to our awards evening she was so approachable and an inspiration to us all. We wish her well and hope she has a speedy recovery."
