A MILLOM man fled from the wheel and was later detained in a back garden as he was not insured to drive his friend's car, a court was told.
Ashley Smith, of Buttermere Drive, pleaded guilty to using an Audi A3 without third party insurance at Furness Magistrates' Court yesterday.
The 23-year-old was driving his friend's car in Palmers Lane on March 6 when he saw a police van and ran off.
Andy Travis, prosecuting, said Smith "panicked" and was caught by an officer.
Smith was given six points on his driving licence, a £400 fine, a victim surcharge of £40 and a court costs bill of £85.
