AN annual car and bike show that raises thousands of pounds for charity has enjoyed its biggest event ever.

People across the Millom and Haverigg area flocked to Millom Bike Group's vehicle show to see some of the finest motors in the country.

Proud owners of classic cars and motorbikes came together for a spectacular showcase of elegant style as families came out in force to see some unusual sights.

Sharon Platt, event organiser, said: "It was a brilliant day.

"We had lots and lots of different cars and bikes and we had wonderful weather to top it off."

Event organisers were delighted to welcome a wide range of wacky racers to the Thwaites Village Hall, where people from right across Cumbria flocked to take a look at these exceptional machines.

Ms Platt said: "We had a very, very eclectic mix of cars and bikes.

"That was the highlight for me – just the sheer diversity of the cars that were coming in."

Millom Bike Group holds the event every year to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance and the Great North Air Ambulance.

Over the past four years, the group has managed to raise more than £20,000 for charity, and more than £1,600 was raised on Sunday afternoon.

Ms Platt said: "The air ambulances are a very integral part of where we live and for us they're a vital service.

"They get the people to the relevant hospital in the right time and now they are still here enjoying life."

Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at GNAAS, is always delighted to receive such support.

She said: “Last year our Cumbria based crew attended 462 incidents. Many of these involved patients who would not have survived without our help.

"On behalf of them and all of our patients, I would like to thank the Millom Bike Group for their generosity.”
