COPELAND mayor Mike Starkie has spoken out after the borough council fell victim to a cyber ransom attack.

The attack caused significant internal disruption at the council.

Mr Starkie said: "These attacks are unpredictable and unpreventable but, as a consequence, we are experiencing an extremely high volume of enquiries. Some users may also experience some difficulties accessing our website.

"Our robust business continuity plan has been activated and we are prioritising services that support our most vulnerable residents.

"You have our assurance that everything possible is being done to return service provision to normal levels. We thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding as we work hard to resolve this situation."
