A SCHOOL in Haverigg is set to reopen today after it was forced to close following an outbreak of a sickness and diarrhoea bug.

Headteacher Melanie Narongchai, who was also struck down by the bug, made the decision to close Haverigg Primary School on Thursday after 19 pupils and two staff were sent home feeling unwell.

Parents were first told on Tuesday to keep poorly pupils at home after children started vomiting in the classrooms.

A thorough clean of the school has taken place over the weekend with pupils being welcomed back to classes at 8:45am today.

Speaking on Thursday following the school's closure, Felicity Wilson, who is a vice chairwoman on the school's board of governors, said: "It is a terribly clean school. We have wonderful caretakers and cleaners and it is kept in immaculate condition. Kids are kids - you just don't know how these things emanate."
