A PRISONER accused of escaping from custody at HMP Haverigg, falsely imprisoning a prison guard and robbery appeared in court today.

Dean Alton Walker, 32, appeared via a video link from HMP Manchester as the three charges were put before him by District Judge Gerald Chalk at Furness Magistrates' Court.

He is accused of escaping from HMP Haverigg on October 28 and also falsely imprisoning a prison guard by detaining him against a wall.

Walker is also accused of the robbery of the prison guard's radio on the same date.

The defendant gave no indication of plea for all three charges and refused to speak to the court to confirm his name.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear before Preston Crown Court on January 6.
