TALENTED youngsters have been applauded for a live music event they staged.

Millom School pupils joined forces to present an evening of live musical entertainment featuring a diverse range of styles.

The evening included tributes to pop and rock legends, such as David Bowie, as the young people remembered their musical legacy.

Highlights of the event last week included a rendition of Uptown Funk by Wednesday Band, conducted by Ruth Cullen, and a solo rap performance of Stormzy’s Shut Up by Peter Gaythorpe, which received a standing ovation.

The programme also included collaboration between Wednesday Band and After School of Rock to deliver an arrangement of songs by the The Beatles, to remember producer Sir George Martin, often referred to as the fifth Beatle.

New vocal group, The Harmonics performed for the first time, covering songs by Jess Glynne, Emeli Sandé and Sia.

The first half was dedicated to solo and duet performances from the schools budding vocalists, performing covers of artists from across the decades including Elvis and Coldplay.

After School of Rock and the ASOR Minis performed songs by Sam Smith, Circa Waves, Arctic Monkeys, Green Day and David Bowie.

Music teacher Annali Lowdon, who organised the annual event, said: "I’m immensely proud of all the pupils who took part, they delivered a diverse and accomplished set list and the atmosphere among the audience was electric.

"It was a great evening and all the hard work leading up to the festival paid off, we were all thoroughly entertained - pupils, families, staff and the wider Millom community."
