The Evening Mail will hold their very own Big Clean in order to help the local community and clean up their much-loved town centre.

The campaign began on March 29 and will run until October 28 with the support of large local firms Kimberly-Clark and Centrica who are supporting the cleaning drive alongside the Evening Mail.

With Kimberly-Clark scheduled to take part in their clean with Ormsgill School in mid-July, the Evening Mail have now decided to schedule their own Big Clean in order to once again take an active role in the environmentally friendly campaign.

James Higgins, the editor of the North West Evening Mail said: "We were delighted to launch our Big Clean initiative in March, and it is a pleasure to work alongside Centrica and Kimberly-Clark again this year.

"I am ever so excited to confirm that our Evening Mail team are holding another big clean this year. We all had such a lovely time during our clean last year. Everybody pulled together and gave the streets around our building a good tidy up.

"I think it is so important to get out litter picking on the streets of Barrow and it's a great team builder too. All the staff in our editorial office are excited to get out working as a group and hopefully some of our advertising staff will lend a hand too."

The Evening Mail team will be taking part in their clean on Monday 25 July at 11am and they will tackle the streets and car parks surrounding the offices on Abbey Road. Mr Higgins and his staff hope that by getting involved they will encourage even more local businesses to clean up their streets and countryside.

Mr Higgins said: "If everybody just makes the effort to keep their own streets tidier then we can make Barrow a much more pleasant and beautiful environment to inhabit. We have such wonderful community spirit and charming features to our town and it is important to take pride in the cleanliness of our streets."

The inspiration for the original campaign came about in 2011 during 'Love Barrow' and since then it has only grown in popularity.

The event runs for seven months every year and has attracted people of all ages, from community groups to school children, with hundreds of people getting involved.
