A DEMAND for more themed weddings has created a niche for a new vintage wedding fair which will showcase both established and fledgling local businesses.

'Vintage in the Lakes' will be held at Chequers Hotel in Dalton on Saturday 21 May from 12-4pm.

The event has been organised by local wedding performer Becki Fishwick, who has noticed the recent demand for a more tailored wedding theme during her many bookings.

She said: "The new wedding fair will be a place for brides to come and find bespoke packages for vintage photography, gowns and make-up.

"We are also inviting some new businesses, such as Bluebell and Ivy - a little florist that will open in Ulverston at the end of May - and has some very original and creative designs."

Miss Fishwick will be performing a set of songs from her own wedding repertoire and hopes that the fayre will cater more towards brides who want a quirky retro theme and are struggling to find an entire package.

There will also be a refreshment station which Miss Fishwick already expects to be popular with the grooms.

She said: "Sometimes grooms can get a little tired of wedding planning so we thought it would be a good idea to provide an area where they can go to get tea, snacks and chill out."

Miss Fishwick has been working closely with Ladybirds Photography who specialise in vintage wedding albums and now she hopes that brides will be able to find a less stressful experience.

She said: "Seeing everything in one place in one day just takes a lot of the stress from the brides; it saves them trawling through the internet and looking for inspiration and they can talk to people who work with vintage looks all the time to see what might work for them."
