A SUPERSTAR pug from Dalton has taken the social media world by storm, racking up a total of 86,000 followers on Instagram with a combination of his modelling talents and charming personality.

Edd, who goes by the name #EDDTHEPUG on Instagram, lives in Buttermere Drive, with his best pal Archie, a French bulldog.

Edd will turn two in June and already boasts a staggering number of followers on his social media accounts.

Edd's owner Andrea Rattray, 51, a teaching assistant at Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School, set up the pug's account when he was just a tiny puppy, before they even brought him home.

Mrs Rattray said: "It was actually Instagram that inspired us to buy Edd in the first place. He was a present for our 18-year-old daughter Ebony who was always looking at pugs on Instagram, especially a pair called George and Teddy. One day my husband actually saw Ebony crying at a photo of a pug because she wanted one so much and so we found our Edd.

"We never expected him to get such a following on social media, we expected about 50 people but it just snowballed. We get dog treats and pug clothes sent in the post for Edd to 'endorse'. Some of it is worth quite a lot of money, he's such a celebrity.

"What we love about Edd's social media presence though is the way we can share pug advice with other owners. Pugs have such big personalities and so many quirks and there just isn't enough information about them on the internet."

Edd's favourite thing to wear is his 'Dogton Abbey' bow tie which was sent especially to him by 'The Very Distinguished Pug Company'.

Edd now shares his Instagram with Archie. At just six months old Archie is not yet as comfortable in front of the camera as Edd.

Mrs Rattray said: "When we first bought Archie, Edd hated him and was quite jealous but now they have become great friends, like brothers.

"We do photo shoots with them both together now and people have been asking if Archie will be getting his own account. Although Archie is still a bit nippy and loves to rip off Edd's bow ties with his teeth."

The Dalton-based duo are now world famous and Andrea and her daughter get requests for personalised pug photos from all over the world.

For Valentines Day 2016, a fan requested a photo of Edd posing with a 'Will you marry me?' sign written in a foreign language so that one of his followers could propose to his girlfriend with a pugtastic gesture.

Mrs Rattray hopes to keep communicating with pug owners through social media and enjoys sharing Edd and Archie's adventures with a whole world of dog lovers.
