RUNNING 200 miles is something that would take most people a week, month or even a year to complete but one Barrow man is aiming to jog the distance in one go for charity.

Fitness fanatic Christopher Kay, 29, of Kent Street, Barrow, will tomorrow start his biggest challenge yet by sprinting across the the Trans-Pennine Trail from Southport to Hornsea.

It will take the mechanical engineer at BAE anywhere between 40 and 50 hours to complete what is an epic physical mission.

Despite previously running 11 marathons in 11 days, completing the Keswick to Barrow 15 times in a row and taking on several Ironman triathlons, the continuous nature of this weekend's task will be the toughest one yet.

"It's trying to do it in one go, that's going to be hard, but I'm quite excited and nervous.

"Hopefully I can finish sometime on Monday afternoon."

The long run has produced a dilemma for Mr Kay who is unsure how long or whether he will get any sleep along the route, as the competitors first home win gold buckles.

He said: "We get a sleeping bag in one of the bags. I might get my head down for a couple of hours.

"I'm a bit nervous about not getting back up again so I don't know.

"There are various check points and we get a number of drop bags when we get there and we get any extra food."

The Barrow shipyard worker is raising money for Get Kids Going, a charity which enables children with disabilities to keep active and play their favourite sports when they otherwise might not have been able to do so.

Mr Kay has been taking on various challenges throughout 2016, aiming for a total mileage of at least 1,500 miles run in competitions this year. It means he is as prepared as he will ever be for the Ultra Great Britain.

He said: "I've been mainly doing these 100 mile races but what would have been the end of the race will be halfway for this one."
