Primary school students held a day of celebration for our armed forces in order to raise money for a much-loved charity.

Pupils from Ormsgill School, Mill Bank, Barrow celebrated Armed Forces Day in a very special way on Monday.

The children were educated about the annual national campaign that gives everyone the opportunity to show their support for the men and women of the Armed Forces past and present, including currently serving troops, service families, reservists, veterans and cadets.

Ormsgill pupils came to school dressed in the colours of the Union Jack, red, white and blue. They all brought in donations and the school raised £55 for the Help the Heroes charity.

Dawn Hubbold, assistant head at Ormsgill, said: "One of our parents had written a piece for us telling us all about his time in the army. His son, Brandon, was very proud to tell all of the other boys and girls about his dad's career.

"We were also joined by two members of the Royal Navy and T.S. Sovereign from Barrow Sea Cadets. The children asked lots of questions and met their mascot - Tiddles the cat. Many are now eager to join the cadets."

The children then celebrated by having a street-party-themed lunch where they tucked into delicious baguettes, sausage rolls, crisps and ice-cream.
