A SPECIAL event is being held to celebrate everything that is wonderful about families’ older generations.

Starting today and running until October 2, Grandparents Week celebrates everything there is to love about the smiles, cuddles, sweets, loves and praise that nanas and grandads provide.

Age UK West Cumbria in Millom and the Anglican Churches will be celebrating Older People’s Day as part of Grandparents Week. At the ‘All Together’ service at St George’s Church, Millom at 11am on Sunday October 1, the children will be invited to join in a card-making competition with a presentation for the winner, and there will be cake for everyone to share.

Linda Chapples, community connections project worker for Age UK in Millom, said: “It’s great to bring younger and older people together, especially over a cup of tea and cake. Sometimes we forget that spending time with grandparents makes their hearts smile.

“Grandparents are our role models, our biggest fans and some of our oldest friends. They share their wisdom, perspective and love.”
