A MUSIC festival which aims to raise awareness of mental health issues will return for its third year this month.

Millom MindFest will welcome a range of popular local bands and vocalists for the occasion, with money raised going towards tackling mental health issues in the town.

The event will be held at Millom's Beggar's Theatre on September 22 from 7pm until 11pm.

Mind in Furness chief officer Karen Dobson said: "MindFest was the brainwave of one of our service users who is a musician and artist and who understands the importance of creativity as an outlet for helping manage poor mental health.

"He used his music connections to set up the first MindFest which was a showcase of local talent and service users who felt confident enough to contribute.

"The Beggar's Theatre is a fantastic local venue and it is thanks to the management, the acts and everyone who came along and contributed that it has been a big success.

"This year we would like to build on the success of previous years and we are pleased that we have been able to attract a great line-up.

"We hope this event can become an annual occurrence because it is a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for our work in Millom supporting local people who are experiencing poor mental health, but also a chance to raise awareness.

"We want to make people aware of the effects of poor mental health and give people an opportunity for people to come together to be sociable, enjoy each other's company and enjoy some great music."

Musical headliners include Rhythm Dead Lady, The Jahm, Right Turn Clyde and Millom vocalists and musicians Josh and Tom.

There will also be some local poets in the form of John Tucker and Stephanie Sorrell.

Crisis support worker, and MindFest organiser Kenny Tyson, from Millom, said: "MindFest is a good opportunity to raise awareness of mental health and the services we provide in Millom.

"We are so grateful to all of the acts who have come on board and supported us by giving their time for free and are so enthusiastic about being involved.

"It means a lot to me to help provide and bring more services to Millom, adding to the fantastic support already provided by other organisations in Millom."

The event is sponsored by Tosh Steel Fabrications and Groundworks, of Millom.

Tickets for the event will cost £7.50 and are on sale now at the Beggar's Theatre and Mind shops in Barrow and Millom.
