John Christopher Tyson pleaded guilty to the offences – which involved more than 70 images – when he appeared at Barrow Crown Court yesterday.

The court heard Tyson, wjo gave his address as Portinscale, near Keswick, downloaded the images in Millom, of which he was formerly a resident, between October 2010 and July 2011.

The court was told the content of the images was rated up to level four on the scale the Crown Prosecution Service uses to rate the material.

Images as high as level four can feature sexual acts between children, and between both children and adults. The court was also told some of the downloaded files were films.

Judge Beverley Lunt ordered a pre-sentence report to be prepared and said Tyson must inform the police of his address within three days of yesterday’s hearing.

Tyson was bailed until April 22, when he will be sentenced in Preston Crown Court.
