Millom bin collections delayed

BIN collections in Millom have been delayed due to strike action.

Copeland Borough Council has said it is working to catch up with a backlog of garden waste collection.

Anyone who lives in areas where garden waste was due to be collected on Thursday and Friday has been asked to leave their bins out until they are collected.

A spokeswoman for Copeland Borough Council said: “We are trying hard to put in extra collections for all the garden bins that were cancelled on July 10 and 11 because of industrial action.

“Anyone who was scheduled for a collection that day should put out their garden bin and leave it until it is collected. If you would rather know the specific collection day please call 0845 054 8600 – however, please note that to do this our teams are at absolute capacity, using all staff and spare vehicles.

“So any hiccup, for example sickness or a mechanical breakdown, could affect our plans. But we are doing our absolute best to get you bins collected.

“The following scheduled collection will go ahead as planned, these are effectively extra pickups to catch up with last week’s.”
