Manecco dance competition at Barrow Sixth Form College

MORE than 1,000 people from across the North West attended a dancing competition in Barrow.

The Manecco competition, which took place at Barrow Sixth Form College on Sunday, attracted 13 groups who competed for awards in entertaining dance.

This is the second year the event has taken place, and was organised by Joanne Leach, leader of Barrow Island dance troupe The Islanders.

The Islanders, which was set up by Mrs Leach in 1996 and now has more than 70 members, won four second place prizes, as well as awards for best mascot and two for best leaders.

Mrs Leach said: “It was a really good event and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I am really proud of how the group did and they were all really excited.”

The competition raised transport costs for The Islanders, although the total amount is yet to be calculated.
