Lovers’ tale is full of intrigue

SHAKESPEARE’S Globe Theatre returns to the Lakes this week with a brand new production of Much Ado About Nothing.

romantic comedy Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing will be performed at Blackwell this week SUBMITTED

This time, the world class theatre company perform in the stunning grounds of Blackwell, in association with The Old Laundry Theatre.

The Arts and Crafts house near Windermere is the venue for the classic drama, which tells the story of Claudio and Hero.

Nothing can keep them apart. Claudio’s friend Benedick loves Beatrice and Beatrice loves Benedick, but nothing seems capable of bringing them together.

Only the intrigues of a resentful prince force Benedick to prove his love for Beatrice – by killing his best friend.

Driven along by a romance all the more charming for being in denial, Much Ado About Nothing is a miracle of comic and dramatic suspense and gives us, in the bantering Beatrice and Benedick, one of Shakespeare’s wittiest, most lovable pair of lovers.

The show takes place outdoors, so seating is not provided. The audience is advised to take rugs, cushions or low-backed chairs. Light Refreshments, hot drinks and ice-creams are available before the performance and during the interval, but the audience are encouraged to bring their own food and drink.

The play, which runs each night from Wednesday to Friday, will go ahead in all but the most extreme weather conditions.

The grounds open at 6pm for a 7pm start, and tickets should be booked in advance from www.blackwell.org.uk
