RECENTLY it was announced by our man at Westminster, John Hutton, that the government had sold off our nuclear power industry to EDF, a French- owned state monopoly.

There isn’t a lot of difference between Margaret Thatcher’s time and New Labour since 1997. Both parties have sold everything they can and the poor old citizen is left with nothing but higher and higher bills.

John Hutton proclaims it is a success for the government and Britain. But I see it as another £5bn into the black hole of Socialism. New Labour has used, or should I say abused, every pound that our country has earned.

We now have a country where the biggest employer is the government – all potential Labour voters. For 11 years, it dithered over nuclear power until our industry professionals had either retired or died. Now one of the most important industries is once again sold off to a foreign buyer.

In the 60s, Britain took the American reactor design and redesigned it into an efficient and safer unit. Britain is a world leader in nuclear energy and we give the technology away. Our man at Westminster has nothing to be proud of.
