The bad old days

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS: David Cameron during his visit to Barrow Rotary Club last week JOE RILEY REF: 0445381

I READ with interest the letter from Chloe Lancaster (Evening Mail, August 16) regarding David Cameron’s visit to the town, and I thoroughly agree with everything she said.

The young people of today do not know or remember the Thatcher years, privatisations, the run down of hospitals and schools.

If the Tories get elected to government then the country will be in for an even rougher ride than what we are going through now.

My late mum used to say the Tories look after the rich and damn the rest of the people, and when Margaret Thatcher was in office she did say she wanted to ‘go back to Victorian values’.

As David Cameron has admitted, he admires her way of working. If the Tories get in, the rich will get richer and the poor will end up in the workhouse, victims of Margaret Thatcher’s Victorian values.

We all know the present government is going through a bad patch, but how quickly people forget all the good that has been done over the years. Everyone is entitled to bad days, we all have them, but they can be worked through. Please give Gordon Brown and the government a chance. Don’t let the Tories convince you they can do better because it will cost us dearly.
