Leisure centre says thank you with party

CHILDREN living with disabilities got the chance to enjoy a fun-filled Christmas party.
The Park leisure centre, in Greengate Street, Barrow, hosted the event alongside Barrow Sports Council and Action for Children just before Christmas.
The youngsters got the chance to tackle bouncy castles, an inflatable slide and an inflatable “gladiator arena”, as well as a ball pool and a sensory area.
Ian Jones, health and fitness manager at the centre, said: “We have the party to say thank you to the partners and the children.
“We have been doing a lot of classes for disabled children over the years, and we are starting to build up a level of familiarity with the children. They see the same faces helping them out and that makes them feel safe and comfortable.”
Laura Jones-Barnes, 33, from Walney, attended the party with her son Sam, who has autism.
She said: “We do a lot of the classes and they do help. He is a lot calmer at home now and coming here helps take away some of the stress of getting him out of the house.”
Joanne Donnelly, aged 40, from Ulverston, was at the centre with her son Alex, aged six, who is also autistic.
She said: “These classes give him a chance to join in. He loves football but he can’t really join an organised team.”
