Learning advice at community event

PEOPLE looking for training and learning opportunities were given advice at a community event.
Potential learners attended Love Learning 2012 at The Forum, in Barrow, on Wednesday.
The free celebration of learning gave people the chance to find out about apprenticeships and college places.
They could also look to try something new such as learning the art of oriental cooking, community fire safety or what volunteering opportunities are available.
Visitors were able to chat with representatives from a range of organisations, including Inspira, Cumbria CVS, Furness College and Cumbria Adult Education.
The event, hosted by Community Learning Action Forum, was held during Adult Learners Week.
The aim was to encourage local people to experience the quality and variety of learning on offer in the area, and to join the growing learning community.
Robin Battersby, CLAF project manager and senior development officer at Cumbria CVS, said: “We had 20 exhibitors from Cumbria CVS, Walking for Health to Barrow Sixth Form College and other training organisations.
“There was a good mix of informal and formal learning and training and the people who came along were looking for specific opportunities.
“The event was effective as it got to the right people. From the feedback we have collected the event has achieved its objectives.”
The event received sponsorship from Cumbria County Council Neighbourhood Forum, Central and Hindpool Neighbourhood Management, Cumbria Adult Education and Kimberly-Clark.
