CHILDREN got into the Easter spirit to learn how to bake hot cross buns.
Year Three and Four pupils at Flookburgh Primary School were visited by Netherwood Hotel chefs Jonathan Seston and Andrew Wilson.
The head and pastry chefs showed the students how to make dough and roll it out to bake bread buns and hot cross buns.
Headteacher, Chris Brooksbank said: “John also did a demonstration with the bread rolls of how to cook scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, donated from the Cartmel Smokehouse. All the children got to taste some really high-quality salmon.
“The children also made fruit smoothies, with fruit donated by Fletchers Greengrocers in Grange. It was very generous and the children in class two got to try the smoothies too.”
The classes were split into groups of 12 for the cookery demonstrations.
Mr Brooksbank said: “John volunteered to come in, after we put out a plea to local people to see if they had any skills to teach.
“We have got a really good arrangement for baking.
“A couple of years ago we had a kids’ kitchen put in.”
At the end of the day some of the children from class three, Years Three and Four, sold their buns to parents in the playground.
Mr Brooksbank added: “John and Andrew were brilliant with the children. It was a lovely day. The children want to do it again so we need to find something else to teach them.”
