COMEDIAN and television presenter Griff Rhys Jones meets the man who made the longest Cumberland sausage in the world in an upcoming television documentary.

Griff Rhys Jones meets Gary McClure, a pig breeder and chef, on his Broughton farm in Monday's episode (08/02) of Griff's Great Britain on ITV.

Mr McClure broke the world record for the largest Cumberland sausage ring at a diameter of 3.3m back in 2012, with the mammoth spiral weighing a staggering 135kg.

During the episode, the sixth in the series, the chef reflects on the achievement and talks about produce in the Lake District.

He said: "Part of his brief was to do a record everywhere he goes.

"He couldn't do the longest sausage attempt as I had already done it but he was interested to hear about it.

"We were talking about pigs and talking about the diversity of the countryside and how we should get back to buying and shopping locally.

"He was fantastic, he really was. It was like walking through a park with somebody you know.

"In the end we went to cook him some Cumberland sausages which wasn't originally in the remit but ended up being. He said he can't cook to save his life."

During the half-hour episode, Griff Rhys Jones also attempts to speed along the steepest road in Britain, crosses the terrifying Infinity Bridge and attempts to break the record for the slowest water ski in history.

It isn't the first time Mr McClure has appeared on television.

He recently met Keeping Up Appearances actress Patricia Routledge for a special Beatrix Potter documentary on More4 on January 26.

Mr McClure said: "I do quite a lot of TV work these days. I like to promote people coming to the Lake District and seeing different parts of the countryside, not just Windermere and Ambleside."

Griff's Great Britain is broadcast on ITV on Monday from 8pm to 8.30pm.
