A cyclist suffered serious head injuries after coming off his bike in Finsthwaite near Newby Bridge.

The cyclist, a 48-year-old man from the Windermere area, was cycling near to Bobbin Mill in Finsthwaite when he came off his bike at around 9pm.

No other persons or vehicles are believed to have been involved.

Friends assisted the man at the scene until North West Ambulance arrived and transferred the cyclist to RLI Lancaster and on to the Royal Preston Hospital.

The cyclist’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

Police closed the road for four hours whilst a collision investigation was commenced.
