A FERRY service across Windermere will be closed tomorrow while urgent repairs are carried out - with the early commuter services still going ahead.

Cumbria County Council will be closing Windermere Ferry tomorrow morning at 9am for urgent repairs to the cable drive system, which pulls the ferry across the lake.

It is anticipated the ferry will re-open later in the day subject to completion of the repairs.

The ferry is being closed at 9am to allow commuters to catch earlier ferries - the first ferry leaves Bowness at 6.50am, with further crossings approximately every 30 minutes.

The council apologises for any inconvenience and asks people to plan their journeys accordingly.

The council will post updates about when the ferry will re-open throughout the day via social media channels.
