A SHOW which has entertained generations of families for more than a century and a half showed no signs of slowing down as it celebrated a landmark year.

The 160th annual Lowick Show took place yesterday, with organisers and guests alike enjoying the better half of the weekend’s highly temperamental weather.

As well as the all-important animal classes, the event provides a fantastic family day out, with plenty of local crafts on offer as well as fun and entertainment for children, parents and grandparents alike.

It proved to be the perfect day for celebration of a landmark year, as the sunshine brought a wealth of guests out to enjoy the show.

The event’s organisers were able to breathe a sigh of relief, having been forced to brave much wetter conditions in 2016.

Show secretary, Claire Storey, said: “It was a lovely day for it, we had the best weather. I know some of the other shows have been really unlucky with the weather but it went really well for us yesterday.

"Everyone was in great spirits and it was a really enjoyable day.

“Last year was a bit of a wash-out because of the rain - it was pretty bad - so we had high hopes for this year and it certainly did live up to them. The weather made it, really.”

In the horticultural tent, there was the chance for green-fingered guests to show off their hard work, from nurtured fruit and vegetables to beautifully-baked bread, nicely-knitted jumpers and the perfect picture captured on camera.

"There were cash prizes, certificates, cups and trophies available across a range of activities and expertise, with special open classes for visitors and more than 30 children’s classes.

The conditions that have plagued the other summer shows of 2017 did bring one hiccup to Lowick, where the ground was still too wet to run the horse competitions.

But the sheep and cattle made up for their absent equine friends, with many of the classes completely full.

Miss Storey said: “All the animals looked great and there were a lot of people there to see them - definitely a fair few hundred.

“I think everything just went really well. There was a great atmosphere, everybody was happy and everyone’s saying what a good time they’ve had.”
