ULTRA runners who are completing 10 back to back marathons are being cheered on each day by school children.

Two south Cumbria runners are among a group of 12 who are running 10 marathons in 10 days to raise funds for Brathay Trust's work helping disadvantaged young people.

Sonja Foster, of Barrow, and Paul Dewar, of Ulverston, are running Brathay 10in10 in support of Brathay's appeal Focus on Furness.

Mr Dewar has given himself an extra challenge with his 21 Day to Hell and Back event. Ahead of Brathay 10in10 he cycled from Land’s End to John O’ Groats, then back to Brathay Hall to swim the length of Windermere before running for 10 consecutive days.

Brathay 10in10 is attracting a lot of support, including pupils at Hawkshead Esthwaite Primary School cheering the runners every day.

Scott Umpleby, head of fundraising at Brathay, said: “Not surprisingly there are aches, pains and minor injuries starting to show as these endurance athletes continue with their mission to run 262 (hilly) miles over 10 days to help vulnerable children and young people. At this point the support of family, friends, student therapists, local school children and the wider community becomes even more important.”

Donations can be made at https://www.brathay.org.uk/appeal/transforminglives or by texting MARA26 £xxxamount to 70070.
