THE ANTIQUES Roadshow is on it’s way to Holker Hall to try and find the area’s hidden gems.

Staff of the hall are thrilled the Roadshow has chosen them to take part in the latest series.

Head of visitor services for the hall, Jillian Rouse said: “It came as a surprise when we found out we would be getting the roadshow.

“It’s a first for us at the hall and we are just delighted to be chosen.”

Thirty experts will be on hand all day to take a look at the public’s treasures, and one of them is extremely excited for what the area has to offer.

Mark Hill, expert on twentieth century design and collectables said: “It’s the thought of the unknown that gets me excited, you never know what’s going to pop up.

“Things clinking in a box somewhere in your house, it could be something magical.

“You just never know.”

Mr Hill is particularly excited to see any Ambleside Pottery or stainless steel and copperware from the Keswick School of Industrial Art.

However, he said it’s not always about the value of the item, or if it‘s particularly special or rare.

He said: “Antiques are the best way of travelling in time. It’s not just about the value, it’s about the stories they can tell.”

There was almost no roadshow at all as the lorry holding the show’s equipment was too big to make it down the drive.

Fortunately there was a tractor on hand to ferry items to the Hall.

Visitors are encouraged to bring any antique they want along, from teddy bears to Victorian grandfather clocks.

More than 2,000 people are expected to visit the hall on Wednesday, so organisers are encouraging people who want their items seen to queue early so they don’t miss out.

Anyone in the queue by 4.30pm is guaranteed to be seen.

Doors are open from 9am to 4.30pm, and all members of the public are invited to bring any antique they want examined along.
